Who goes?
In following the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations, we welcome followers of Jesus Christ from all backgrounds to join us in this journey. Each year, CIM Canada sends over a few teams of short-term missionaries (STM's) to support ECG's local ministries. Usually, teams form within individual churches. However, if a team cannot be formed, then individual members can join another team and meet up in Ghana. Thus, the members need not be from the same city or country. The departure date and length of stay in Ghana depends on each team's availability and agreement with respective members.
What do we do in the village schools?
Depending on your group, here are some ways that members can play a part in the village schools:
* Organize and lead a a camp/workshop for the children (Vacation Bible School, Sports Camp, Art Camp)
* Meet with the youth and facilitate a discipleship group
* Provide workshops for the teachers
* Visit the students' parents and provide a community workshop (e.g. addressing health issues, parenting ideas)
* Share your testimony
In partnering with the local church, members can go on visitations with the pastors around the community. The hope is to encourage members to return to church for those who have stopped being part of the community and to share the gospel message with people who have not heard it before. By the grace of God, many have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus as the Lord and Saviour through these interactions! People are amazed that foreigners have come such a long distance to tell them the Good News. Not only does this connect interested individuals to the church, but it is a great encouragement for the pastors as well.
Finally, we go there to learn from our brothers and sisters in Ghana. We go there not necessarily because we "have" something to give/help them with, but because we can enrich each other's lives as we share the Lord's blessings and lessons with one another. Many would testify that they have received more from our Ghanaian counterparts than they themselves have offered by going on this missions trip. A major part in what we could "offer" is to watch and learn--to absorb and to listen. After, we hope you can share their stories with your friends and family and to encourage them to participate in this ministry.
